What is MOPS?

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, but it really has nothing to do with preschool. If you are pregnant or if you have a child(ren) younger than 7, we want to welcome you to this fabulous group of moms! MOPS is a chartered organization. This means that we are connected to MOPS International -- we are dependent on them, their guidelines, purpose, etc.

MOPS is an outreach ministry to mothers of preschoolers. This means that we are reaching out to meet the needs of all mothers/families in the community.

MOPS provides an open, accepting atmosphere where specific and significant needs of today's mothers are shared. The MOPS format includes:

     Food and Fellowship
Guest speaker or Whole Group Discussion
     Small group discussion
     Creative activities

MOPS is
not a Bible study. It is instruction relating to womanhood, marriage, childrearing and family relationships. We have a variety of guest speakers from doctors to teachers, counselors to specialists in a variety of fields. Often the instruction or discussions will focus on biblical principles.

MOPS is primarily led by the mothers themselves, with the addition of mentor moms who are older and past this season of life.

MOPS provides quality childcare and the opportunity for children to enjoy our educational MOPPETS Curriculum.

The Chadron MOPS group is chartered by Ridgeview Bible Church and Chadron Community Church.

We have both morning and evening meetings. We'll meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 9-11:15am and the 4th Monday of each month at 6-8:00 pm.

MOPS dues are $5 each meeting which covers the cost of child care, craft supplies, speakers gifts, leadership training, a portion of our MOPS International Dues, and MOPS to Mom Connection (see more below). If you are unable to pay your dues, please don't let that keep you from coming to MOPS. Scholarships are available as well as other arrangements to cover your costs.

MOPS to Mom Connection provides each mom with a bi-monthly issue of MOMSense Magazine, Weekly MOM Encouragement E-mail, and an encouraging book for moms.

Shelly Thiry (Coordinator): What a blessing MOPS is to me! I want to thank you very much that I can serve you as coordinator for 4 years. I was apart of that first MOPS 11 years ago as a MOPPETS worker and it is great to see how God has expanded it this year to include every mother~the working mom! Welcome Working Moms to MOPS! My husband, Bob and I also will celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary in Sept. 2009. We are blessed with two beautiful girls; Emmalynn will be 5 in November and Isabelle is 2 1/2 yrs old. I am excited to be "Together with You All" this year while we grow into what God has called us to be.

Dawn Meister (MOPPETS): My husband, Dave and I have 4 children-3 girls and 1 boy, and one granddaughter. Our youngest is still at home. We moved into town in November of 2006. I work with Dave in our window covering business. I also enjoy working with Children's Ministries and am involved with AWANA, Sunday school and MOPS. I have been involved with MOPS since its beginning 10 years ago and enjoying teaching all of the little ones and watching them grow.

Mary Branson (Mentor Mom Coordinator): Hi, I'm Mary, one of the mentor moms. I am blessed to have been a member of the original Chadron MOPS steering group and I'm thankful that you continue to ask me to be involved. My husband, Lee, and I have three children; Our beautiful Chris went to be with Jesus in October of 2006 after fighting that dreaded disease-cancer. Our son Jeff, is married to Jennifer and they have blessed us with Ayden, who is 3 and 1/2 and Braylon, who is 7 months. I am blessed to be able to provide day care for them and I'm hoping Jennifer will get to go to MOPS at night this year. Our teenager, Laine, is a Junior this fall at Chadron High School. His goal is to be unique and be a friend to everyone, and he is definitely accomplishing it. I love building relationships with you and your children and hopefully as we "mother" together I will be both a helpful and Godly influence to you. I am looking forward to sharing our "Life on Planet Mom" this MOPS year. I truly believe that Mothering Matters, and that "Better Moms make a better world.

Kristi Johnson (Mentor Mom): I was raised in Chadron, NE. I am a family physician and mother of 5 children, ages 18,17,15,13 and 10. We spent 12 years in Imperial, 1 year overseas in New Zealand and moved back to Chadron 4 years ago. I love the dual role God has given me and am excited to be a Mentor Mom for MOPS.
Keri Wyatt (Discussion Group Leader): Hello and welcome to MOPS! To let you know a little about me, I feel blessed to be married to Craig, a devoted Christian man, caring husband, and awesome father. Our blended family consists of LaRee ~ 24 yrs, Cole ~ 21 yrs, Blaine ~ 18 yrs, Bryanna ~ 13 yrs, and Jace ~ 5 yrs. I am a stay-at-home mom who loves to serve in different ministries, especially MOPS. I am very excited to be a discussion group table leader for Chadron MOPS. It is my prayer that, through Chadron MOPS, you will find long-lasting relationships that encourage and equip you as we are here "Together on Planet Mom". Just remember: we are Mothers of Preschoolers . . . because mothering matters!
Tammy Becker (Hospitality): I'm very excited about my 3rd year at MOPS. My husband Jamie & I have 4 beautiful girls, Taylor (7), Haley (6), Leah (5) & Kenli (will be 2 in Nov.). My husband works for NPPD & is an avid hunter who takes "his girls" with him whenever possible. I am a stay at home mom & enjoy gardening, reading & walking. I hope I can help make this year at MOPS exciting & fun for all of you!
Kendra Varpness (Finance): Hi! My name is Kendra Varpness. This will be my third year in MOPS and my first year on steering. My husband Zack and I have been married for 9 years and we have two daughters. Lily is 4 1/2 years old and Ruth turned 1 in April. Zack is a chemistry professor at CSC and I am blessed to be a stay at home mom. I enjoy reading, walking, camping, baking, and spending time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to a great year at MOPS and am excited to get to know all of you.
Amy Horst (Discussion Group Team Leader): I have been married to Brandon for six years and have a son, Isaiah, who turned two in July. I am a stay at home mom most of the time, but also teach private piano lessons and am the worship leader at Ridgeview Bible Church. Brandon teaches elementary computers and we also have a photography business that keeps us busy. I enjoy walking, running, reading, cooking (most of the time!), and spending time with friends and family. I am glad that you are here and I look forward to getting to know you and learning from each other!
For the 2009-10 year MOPS will offer both a daytime meeting and an evening meeting. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday morning of each month from 9 to 11:15am and the 4th Monday evening of each month from 6 to 8:00pm.

MOPS also offers a variety of other playdates and special family events throughout the year, so let us know if you'd like to be on our announcement email list.

Our first meeting of the year will be Wednesday, September 9th at the Chadron Community Church (on 8th and Maple). For more information, click the buttons to the right.
Jennifer Fintel (Creative Activites): Hi! Welcome to MOPS! I am Jennifer Fintel and this will be my second year at MOPS. I am a single mother of two boys: Jacob-4 1/2 and Jonathan 3. I am blessed to be able to still be at home with them part time and to be a hairstylist the other half. I enjoy reading, camping, fishing, riding horses and spending time with friends. I look forward to another great year and can't wait to meet some new moms.
